Peranakan Kebaya Inspired Cheongsum

My sweet sister in law ordered these cakes for her friends, Karen and Hannah who are celebrating their birthday together.

These are my interpretation of the Chinese Cheongsum with Peranakan Kebaya influence.
I try to incorporate traditional elements such as the floral embroidery, beads and bold colours in the design.

The ornate gold button signify kerongsang that is used to pin the kebaya.

Cake flavour was sugee cake which is Eurasian and Peranakan favourite, encased with home made marzipan.

Real madrid football theme cake

I did this cake for Jaya,  who was looking for two football theme birthday cakes for two young boys.  Harihar's favourite team is Real Madrid.  She requested a trophy cake topper for the cake and this is what I come up with.

Football boots, La Liga trophy, footballs, Real Madrid jersey and scarf are all hand crafted with sugarpaste.

Cake flavour was Sugee cake covered with homemade marzipan and fondant.

Christmassy Sugee cake

If fruitcake is not your piece of cake, go for sugee. Almond sugee cake is an Eurasian cake that is served at Eurasian Christenings, Christmas, New Year's Eve, birthday and etc.
This version of sugee cake is lighter and fluffy with grainy(semolina), nutty (almond) and buttery crumb.
Last weekend I had the pleasure of  making a sugee cake for my husband and son's school's alumni year end get together. While we mummies were chit chatting, a Eurasian parent came to us with a smile on his face and said “the sugee cake is very nice!!” without knowing I was the baker.

The big smile on his face really made my day!!!
