5 tier Wedding cupcake tower decorated with handcrafted sugar red roses

My friend Angie contacted me few weeks ago, she wanted to order a cupcake tower for her best friend's wedding. What a lovely friend!!! I was really excited about it as I love working on wedding theme because that means I can do my sugar flowers!!!
As the bride prefer buttercream and the wedding theme is red roses, we decided to work along that line.  Less is more, I wanted to keep the design really simple so that the handcrafted sugar red roses will stand out.
3 weeks before the big day, I started on the preparation of sugar rosebud. As sugar paste needs drying time, after shaping the rose buds I let the it dry for 24 hours.

Next, I started rolling out thin layer of sugar paste and build on the petals. I made total of 55 roses (some for spare) and it took me about 3 days to work on the entire process.

Some progress shots taken while assembling the cupcakes.

See the pretty hue of pink strawberry sponge cupcake with Ivory vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream in constrast with handcrafted red sugar rose!!! I feel like taking a bite right now!

Here is my 5 tier Wedding cupcake tower decorated with handcrafted sugar red roses in the wedding venue.
The bride chooses strawberry sponge with vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream for the cupcakes and vanilla sponge with lemon curd Swiss meringue buttercream for the top tier cake.

Some close of shots of the top tier 6" cake.

This is my last cake of 2014.
2014 was a fantastic year for me.  I feel so blessed to work on something I really love!!!
Thank you all so much for your friendship, love and support throughout this year!!!
Happy New Year!!!

The GRAND FINALE of Christmassy cupcakes 2014

This is it! These are the grand finale for my Christmas cupcakes 2014 and they are my top favourite!
This is my most decadent and showstopping cupcakes.  Each moist fruit cupcake is saturated with spirit and top with homemade marzipan.  I love the dramatic red and pristine white in contrast with the majestic gold.
I am so going to take an indulgent bite!!!

Christmassy Sugee cake

If fruitcake is not your piece of cake, go for sugee. Almond sugee cake is an Eurasian cake that is served at Eurasian Christenings, Christmas, New Year's Eve, birthday and etc.
This version of sugee cake is lighter and fluffy with grainy(semolina), nutty (almond) and buttery crumb.
Last weekend I had the pleasure of  making a sugee cake for my husband and son's school's alumni year end get together. While we mummies were chit chatting, a Eurasian parent came to us with a smile on his face and said “the sugee cake is very nice!!” without knowing I was the baker.

The big smile on his face really made my day!!!

My Christmas cupcake collection 2014

These little gems are moist fruit cupcakes top with homemade marzipan.
Whenever I do not have the patience to wait for the fruitcake to mature,  I will bake them in cupcakes.
After taking them out hot from the oven,   I will immediately drizzle rum over these babies and serve them warm.
They also stay moist in room temperature for weeks and that gives me time to dress them up for Christmas!!!
